Duomo di Milano ( Milan Cathedral )
In the heart of Milan there is a magnificent, Gothic-style Cathedral. Many pointed spires, sculptures and statues, columns and turrets — all white marble Milan Cathedral. Jubilee Church ( Jubilee Church )
Jubilee Church or the Church of Merciful Father God was built in 1996-2003 by architect Richard Meier. Initially the Church was intended to revitalize the lives of residents, but, over time, it became a real social centre of Rome. Jubilee Church stands on a triangular site surrounded by high-rise apartment houses in which live about 30,000 people.
The Church of Paraportiani ( Church of Paraportiani )
The snow-white Church was built in the 15th – 17th centuries on ostrovityane, Greece. The temple consists of 5 churches, four of which are on the ground, and the fifth is based on them. Continue reading
Not far from Kronstadt of water rise from the silent walls of the Fort “Emperor Alexander I” or “Plague”. The history of abandoned structures, in which a hundred years ago there was a mysterious laboratory, is still stirring imagination of residents.
What is the Fort? The word Fort comes from the Latin fortis and the French fort, which means strong and sturdy, and the fortification is to strengthen and build defensive structures.
Fort “Emperor Alexander I” (“Plague”) is one of long-term defensive structures included in the system of defense of Kronstadt. Located on a small artificial island South of Kotlin island. From 1899 to 1917 has been used as a laboratory to study the plague.
Since 1923 strengthening again passed into the hands of the military, who created the warehouse mine-sweeping equipment. And by 1983, the Fort was abandoned. Continue reading
Amiens is the main city of Picardy, a historical region in North-Western France, situated on the river Somme. In the center stands a huge Cathedral – the largest Gothic building in France.
The AMIENS CATHEDRAL, one of the most famous Gothic cathedrals in the world and one of the largest in France (length 145 km). The main part of it built in 1218-1279 project of Robert de Luzarches and his successors Volume and Renaud de Cormon. Between 1373 1549 and in the late Gothic style were built the towers of the Western facade and some other parts of the building. The main features of the great French cathedrals of the high Gothic era developed in the architecture of the cathedrals of Chartres and Reims. The Notre Dame Cathedral in Amiens is one of the most courageous, graceful and harmonious architectural solutions of a Gothic Church. On the Western facade of the building there are three sculpted portals; the Central portal is decorated with the famous statue of the blessing Christ. The main nave (height of 42.5 meters, width of 14.3 m) is a three-tiered structure: in the middle tier for arcade of triforia is a narrow gallery. Continue reading
